Baseball Recap: Knight Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Knight, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Eastside Lions on Friday as they made off with a 10-1 victory. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Lions on Wednesday, they had to take a 5-0 defeat.

Giovanni Gonzalez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has become a key player for Knight: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Gonzalez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Knight let Phillip Escobar and Santiago Mendoza run wild. Escobar went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Mendoza went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Mendoza has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Jordan Estrella, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Knight always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastside only posted an OBP of .355.

Knight's record is now 7-13. As for Eastside, they dropped their record down to 4-18-1 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Knight has already played their next contest, an 11-4 win against Antelope Valley on the 5th. As for Eastside, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 12-1 defeat against Hesperia on the 6th.
