Baseball Game Preview: Central Catholic Vikings vs. Penn-Trafford Warriors

The Central Catholic Vikings will head out to take on the Penn-Trafford Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Central Catholic came out on top against Montour on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Vikings walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Spartans.

Ryan Tatar looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has become a key player for Central Catholic: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, CJ Proch and Yaniel Heredia did most of the damage at the plate: Proch went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Heredia went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Heredia a new career-high. Chase Gelpi also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Penn-Trafford had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Panthers 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since April 1st.

Penn-Trafford's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Central Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.
