Basketball Recap: Gateway Comes Up Short

After flying high against The Pinnacle last Friday, Gateway came back down to earth. The Gateway Olympians lost to the Aurora Central Trojans at home by a 46-29 margin on Tuesday. The Olympians have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Gateway still got an impressive performance from Jana Young, who posted 14 points. Those 14 points gave Young a new career-high.

Jamaea Johnson-Gonzales was her usual excellent self, putting up 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven blocks for Aurora Central. Another player making a difference was Andena Torres, who earned ten points along with six boards and five steals.

Gateway's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Aurora Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Gateway has already played their next matchup, a 37-27 victory against Thornton on the 6th. As for Aurora Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-23 win against Adams City on the 6th.
