Basketball Game Preview: Porter Ridge Pirates vs. Weddington Warriors

Two dominant guards in Ashanti Taylor and Caroline Clark are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Porter Ridge Pirates will face off against the Weddington Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Porter Ridge has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Porter Ridge is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest win since December 20, 2024 on Tuesday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 73-42 victory over Cuthbertson. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Cavaliers are ranked 365th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Taylor was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 16 rebounds. The match was her 23rd in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Molly Malcolm, who posted 14 points.

Porter Ridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists.they racked up six more assists than Cuthbertson's almost as impressive total of 11

Meanwhile, Weddington hadn't done well against Cuthbertson recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Weddington blew past Cuthbertson 62-41. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Weddington has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points over those games. As for Porter Ridge, their record is now 16-5.

Porter Ridge came up short against Weddington when the teams last played last Friday, falling 72-62. Can Porter Ridge avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
