Basketball Recap: Clearwater Finds Playoff Glory Versus Port Charlotte

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Clearwater walked away with it. They walked away with a 48-36 win over the Port Charlotte Pirates on Friday. For the Tornadoes, this counts as revenge for the 54-44 victory the Pirates walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Clearwater's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peyton Flournoy, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allevia Williams, who scored 13 points.

Despite the defeat, Port Charlotte saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jesslymar Santa dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. That's the most boards Santa has posted since back in November of 2024.

Clearwater is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.5 points. Port Charlotte moved to 22-8 with that loss, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.

After both having extra time off, Clearwater and New Smyrna Beach will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 5:00 p.m. on March 5th. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as New Smyrna Beach comes in on 13 and Clearwater on five. Port Charlotte does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
