Preview: Northview Wildcats vs. Anthony Wayne Generals
The Northview Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Anthony Wayne Generals at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Northview will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 169th, while Anthony Wayne is ranked sixth).
Last Thursday, things could have been worse for Northview, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-35 loss to Whitmer.
Meanwhile, Anthony Wayne came tearing into Thursday's match with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Perrysburg with points to spare, taking the game 54-39.
Anthony Wayne's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Brooke Bender, who shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, and Elise Bender, who scored 27 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. It was the first time this season that Bender pulled down eight or more rebounds. Sophie Smith was another key contributor, scoring four points along with eight assists.
Northview has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season. As for Anthony Wayne, they pushed their record up to 19-2 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Northview was taken down by Anthony Wayne 73-38 in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bender, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds.
