Softball Recap: Wesclin Comes Up Short

Wesclin had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-12 to make it five. They came up short against the Red Bud Musketeers, falling 16-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Warriors have suffered since April 1st.

Wesclin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Kallvy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Red Bud, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Red Bud's side, Julia Ohlau made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Ohlau has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Olivia Schmidt was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Lilly Minemann was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

While Wesclin had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
