Basketball Recap: Shianna Holmes and Riannah Miles Secure Win for El Campo

El Campo lost to Sweeny back in December of 2021, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The El Campo Ricebirds walked away with a 59-50 victory over the Sweeny Bulldogs. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Ricebirds.

Leading El Campo to victory were Riannah Miles and Shianna Holmes. Miles posted 26 points and six steals, while Holmes went 7 of 11 on her way to 14 points along with eight steals and five assists. Miles' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mac?Yia Warner, who put up nine points and eight rebounds.

El Campo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matchups.

Sweeny lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Daija Stubblefield, who had 12 points and five rebounds. Those 12 points gave Stubblefield a new career-high. Kamryn Bragg was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

El Campo is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Sweeny, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-14.

El Campo will welcome Columbia at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sweeny, they will head out to take on La Marque at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
