Baseball Recap: Pagosa Springs Comes Up Short

Pagosa Springs had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-6 to make it five. They came up short against the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers, falling 15-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 on Monday.

Kyler Henderson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

As for Montezuma-Cortez, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-4. Considering they have won five contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Montezuma-Cortez's side, Seth Oakes looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Montezuma-Cortez got a massive performance out of Cory Carver, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Carver is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played. Parker Conrad was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases.

Coming up, Pagosa Springs will be playing in front of their home fans against Cedaredge at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they are taking a road trip to take on Alamosa at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Mean Moose have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
