Basketball Recap: Moapa Valley Takes a Loss

If Moapa Valley was riding high fresh off their 50-10 takedown of Chaparral last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Moapa Valley Pirates were dealt a 51-21 loss at the hands of the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights on Wednesday. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-7.

Defeat or not, Moapa Valley got some senior leadership from Sienna Neilson and Claire Cox. Neilson posted four points along with seven boards and four steals, while Cox had eight points and 12 rebounds. Cox has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played.

Leading Mater Academy East Las Vegas to victory were Amija Macon and Victoria Rubio-White. Macon put up 16 points in addition to six blocks and three steals, while Rubio-White went 6 for 7 on her way to 14 points and five steals. What's more, Macon also posted a 75% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was London Scott, who scored six points.

Moapa Valley's loss dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Moapa Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-22 defeat against Virgin Valley on the 7th. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 62-2 win against Chaparral on the 7th.
