Baseball Game Preview: Sumner Tigers vs. George Stevens Academy Eagles

Sumner hasn't had much luck against George Stevens Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Tigers will welcome the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Sumner and Machias had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Tigers skirted past the Bulldogs 3-2.

Logan Crowley was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyl Renwick, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for George Stevens Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Orono on Wednesday, sneaking past 2-1.

The victory got George Stevens Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Sumner, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Sumner might still be hurting after the 10-2 loss they got from George Stevens Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
