Softball Recap: Portales Wins Going Away Against Clovis

While Portales didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Clovis Wildcats on Wednesday. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Amaya Lujan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Portales got a massive performance out of Myleigh Banda, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave Banda a new career-high. Maria Lujan was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Portales' win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Clovis, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Portales beat the Wildcats by a score of 15-0 later that day.
