Baseball Game Preview: Caledonia Cavaliers vs. Houston Hilltoppers

Caledonia hasn't had much luck against Houston recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Caledonia Cavaliers will welcome the Houston Hilltoppers at 7:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Caledonia didn't have quite enough to beat Houston and fell 4-3.

For Houston's part, Adam Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts Smith has posted since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Box, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Houston has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. Caledonia's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-6.
