Volleyball Recap: Belton Wins Going Away Against Raytown

Belton had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Raytown on Thursday. The Pirates blew past the Bluejays 3-0. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Bluejays recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

While Belton won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-22.

Zane Richard paced Belton's offense, picking up seven kills. Richard got some help from Josue Hinojos and his 18 assists. Hinojos was also solid from the service line: he led the team with six aces.

Despite the loss, Raytown still got an impressive performance from Nathan Benavides, who had 35 digs. Benavides has been hot recently, having posted 24 or more digs the last four times he's played. Lukas Lindsey-Bielski also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.

Belton's win bumped their record up to 17-13-3. As for Raytown, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 15 of their last 17 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season.

Belton has already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Northeast on the 6th. As for Raytown, they will face off against Winnetonka at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
