Softball Recap: Princeton Drops Highest Score of Season Against Newman Central Catholic

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Princeton). Everything went their way against the Newman Central Catholic Comets on Thursday as they made off with a 15-5 win. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 10-9 victory the Comets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Keely Lawson was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Caroline Keutzer was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Princeton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.

The win got Princeton back to even at 3-3. As for Newman Central Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Princeton will venture away from home to take on Sherrard at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sherrard's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Princeton's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Newman Central Catholic, they will head out to face off against Orion at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
