Baseball Recap: Santa Maria's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Santa Maria never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against the Orcutt Academy Spartans as they made off with a 13-0 win. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Orcutt Academy's batters probably weren't too happy with Dominic Martin, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (he gave up zero walks).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Joseph Gaitan, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Mateo Peinado was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Santa Maria always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orcutt Academy only posted an OBP of .059.

The victory (which was Santa Maria's third in a row) raised their record to 14-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Orcutt Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Santa Maria does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Orcutt Academy, they will face off against Santa Ynez at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
