Basketball Recap: Blackville-Hilda Comes Up Short

Blackville-Hilda played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans an easy 67-42 win. The Fighting Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Blackville-Hilda lost, don't look at Breyanna Williams. Despite the final result, she went 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points and five steals. Williams is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least five every time she's taken the court this season. Kayla Abney was another key player, putting up four points.

Even though they lost, Blackville-Hilda smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Ridge Spring-Monetta's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylah Leaphart, who went 13 of 16 on her way to 28 points. With that strong performance, Leaphart is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ny'Asia Young, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Blackville-Hilda's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-2. As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-3.
