Softball Game Preview: Proviso East Pirates vs. Leyden Eagles

Proviso East is 0-10 against Leyden since May of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the Eagles at 4:45 p.m. Proviso East has given up an average of 18.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Monday just wasn't the day for Proviso East's offense. They came up short against Addison Trail on Monday, falling 16-0. The Pirates just can't catch a break and have now endured seven losses in a row.

Meanwhile, Leyden earned a 5-2 win over Berwyn/Cicero Morton on Monday.

Abigail Cortez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carmen Richardson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Elise Bertsche, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Proviso East's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Leyden, their record is now 7-8.

Proviso East suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Leyden in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
