Softball Recap: Delta Eagles vs. Bellmont Braves

Delta extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-9 in the process. They came up short against the Bellmont Braves, falling 14-7. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2022.

Ava West made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Hughes, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Bellmont, their record is now 5-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

On Bellmont's side, Taylor Bauer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off 12 hits. The dominant performance also gave Bauer a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Bellmont got a massive performance out of Finnley Godsey, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Godsey a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Ashley, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Delta will face off against Mt. Vernon at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bellmont, they will challenge Columbia City at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup will give the Braves their first taste of in-conference action this season.
