Baseball Recap: Sumner Wins Going Away Against Rogers

Sumner barely beat Rogers the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Rams on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Preston Coleman looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Sumner got a massive performance out of Xander Cypher, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Bryce Carl, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Sumner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Sumner and bumps their season record up to 11-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Rogers, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sumner will face off against Graham-Kapowsin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 3.1, the Eagles 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Rogers, they will challenge Bonney Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rams are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
