Basketball Recap: Beardstown Takes a Loss

Beardstown was the 61-55 winner over Mendon Unity when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Beardstown Tigers fell 69-57 to the Mendon Unity Mustangs on Thursday.

Despite the defeat, Beardstown saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Colby DeSollar posted ten points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave DeSollar a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Zach Meyer, who had ten points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Beardstown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Beardstown has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-21 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points over those games. Mendon Unity's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 18-12.

Coming up, Beardstown won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Routt Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Routt Catholic will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Beardstown surely won't give up without a fight. Mendon Unity does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
