Recap: Dougherty Trojans vs. Monroe Golden Tornadoes
If the Dougherty Trojans were feeling good off their 62-39 takedown of the Columbus Blue Devils last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Dougherty took a serious blow against Monroe on Friday, falling 74-44. Dougherty has struggled against Monroe recently, as their game on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jatiana Chambers, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Chambers is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Teaylia Hawkins was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Monroe was led to victory by Taylor Mckinzy and Kie'Aundria Acree. Mckinzy scored 25 points along with five assists, while Acree scored 29 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mckinzy has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Quaneisha Sims, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Dougherty's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Monroe, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
Dougherty will square off against Lee County at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Bayyinah Citlak and Chambers. As for Monroe, they will square off against Early County at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Early County is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
