Preview: Sebring Blue Streaks vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils
The Sebring Blue Streaks will head out on the road to square off against the St. Petersburg Green Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sebring has four straight wins, St. Petersburg has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Sebring had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against Southeast on Tuesday as Sebring made off with a 94-71 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Sebring can attribute much of their success to Jordan Gregory, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds, and Kj Turner, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine assists. Turner has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sylvester Lewis, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 72-42, which was the final score in St. Petersburg's tilt against IMG Academy Gold last Tuesday. While losing is never fun, St. Petersburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while IMG Academy Gold is ranked 93rd).
Sebring is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for St. Petersburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-9.
