Softball Game Preview: Gray-New Gloucester Patriots vs. Freeport Falcons

The Gray-New Gloucester Patriots will head out to square off against the Freeport Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Gray-New Gloucester took a 14-run defeat the last time they faced off against Poland, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Knights on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Patriots have posted against the Knights since May 21, 2021.

Meanwhile, Freeport took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past Lake Region 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Lakers: they've now won three in a row.

Vanessa St. Pierre was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Ali Brown was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases.

Gray-New Gloucester's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Freeport, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Gray-New Gloucester might still be hurting after the 18-1 loss they got from Freeport in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
