Basketball Recap: Southside Comes Up Short

Southside lost against Northside - Pinetown back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Southside Seahawks lost 76-52 to the Northside - Pinetown Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while the Panthers are ranked 155th).

Despite the loss, Southside still got an impressive performance from I'Kiriyah Minor, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten boards. That's the most rebounds Minor has posted since back in November of 2024. Tamya Smith was another key player, going 5-for-11 to rack up 12 points.

Even though they lost, Southside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northside - Pinetown only six offensive rebounds.

Olivia Jane Cahoon was her usual excellent self, going 14-for-32 en route to 34 points along with eight assists and five boards for Northside - Pinetown. Cahoon has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophie Berry, who had 13 points and seven steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Southside and nudges their season record down to 14-9. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points over those games. As for Northside - Pinetown, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-1.

As of now, neither Southside nor Northside - Pinetown have any future games scheduled.
