Basketball Game Preview: Redmond Mustangs vs. Sammamish RedHawks

The Redmond Mustangs will square off against the Sammamish RedHawks at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Redmond is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering North Creek just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 63-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Mustangs came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Jaguars are ranked 132nd).

Meanwhile, Sammamish hadn't done well against Mercer Island recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Sammamish had just enough and edged Mercer Island out 58-56. The win made it back-to-back victories for the RedHawks.

Redmond better focus on containing Barry Morrissette and Rakin Showki as the pair were huge in Sammamish's win. Morrissette dropped a double-double on 26 points and 20 rebounds, while Showki dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten assists. Showki's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Anthony Boddie, who posted nine points.

Sammamish's victory bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Redmond, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.

Redmond strolled past Sammamish when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 71-57. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Showki, who went 13 for 20 on his way to 29 points in addition to five boards and three steals.
