Softball Game Preview: Natalia Mustangs vs. Crystal City Javelinas

Natalia has gone a perfect 5-0 against Crystal City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Natalia Mustangs will welcome the Crystal City Javelinas at 6:00 p.m. Natalia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Natalia lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lytle, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. Natalia blew past Lytle 11-5 on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Gabriella Mendez and Leyla Saenz did most of the damage at the plate: Mendez scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Saenz scored a run while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance gave Saenz a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Aryanna Ramirez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Crystal City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Dilley, falling 16-6.

Izabela Tapia made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

Natalia is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. Crystal City's loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Everything went Natalia's way against Crystal City when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Natalia made off with a 10-0 win. Will Natalia repeat their success, or does Crystal City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
