The Bay Yellowjackets will venture away from home to take on the Manila Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Manila took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Bay, who comes in off a win.
Bay took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Trumann, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Yellowjackets skirted past the Wildcats 7-6. That's two games straight that the Yellowjackets have won by just one run.
Jaden Dacus made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Cade Spencer and Jacob Willard did most of the damage at the plate: Spencer went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one RBI, while Willard went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That triple was Spencer's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Will Cossey, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Bay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Manila came up short against Harrisburg on Thursday and fell 6-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Hornets: they've now lost five in a row.
The win made it two in a row for Bay and bumps their season record up to 3-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Manila, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.
Bay came out on top in a nail-biter against Manila in their previous matchup back in March of 2020, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Yellowjackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
