Baseball Recap: Stratford Triumphs

Stratford proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wando Warriors, sneaking past 4-3. That's more bragging rights for the Knights, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jachin Davis made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Stratford is 3-0-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2-1 otherwise. Davis was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Stratford got a great performance from Jacob Deacon as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

Davis wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jason Smith, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Another was Bryce Herpolsheimer, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Stratford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wando only posted a batting average of .148.

Stratford is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. With the defeat, Wando broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-3.

Stratford will have a chance to go back-to-back against Wando: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
