Softball Game Preview: South Columbus Stallions vs. East Columbus Gators

For the second straight game, South Columbus will face off against East Columbus. South Columbus will take on East Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Columbus has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

South Columbus fell victim to East Columbus and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Gators, falling 15-0. The loss continues a trend for the Stallions in their meetings with the Gators: they've now lost four in a row.

For East Columbus' part, Gracie Coyle made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Coyle was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, East Columbus let Jenna King and Aleigh Godwin run wild. King scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Godwin scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Godwin continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sara Coleman, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

East Columbus hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

East Columbus has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. South Columbus now has a losing record of 3-4.
