Basketball Recap: Phelps Extends Winning Streak to Four

After losing to Belfry the last time they met, Phelps decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Phelps Hornets enjoyed a cozy 66-48 victory over the Belfry Pirates on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Hornets as they're now sitting on four straight.

Phelps' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Weddington, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 15 boards. Weddington is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down 13 or more in each of the last 13 games he's played. Jahmar Stewart was another key player, going 6-for-11 en route to 17 points and seven boards.

Despite the loss, Belfry had strong showings from Carter Jude, who posted 17 points and three steals, and Jaxon Estridge, who shot 44% from the field on his way to 16 points and five rebounds. Jude continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Hagy, who had six points and five boards.

Phelps' win bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Belfry, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season.

Phelps has already played their next contest, a 58-35 defeat against Pike County Central on the 27th. As for Belfry, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-58 loss against Floyd Central on the 27th.
