Softball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Mcdaniel's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

McDaniel came out on top against Ida B. Wells on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run second inning. The Mountain Lions never let the Guardians get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mountain Lions, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Amira Edwards and Jesse Brill were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Edwards pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Brill pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Edwards went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI, while Brill went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylie Schmitz, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Tiffany Jordan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

McDaniel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ida B. Wells only posted an OBP of .318.

McDaniel has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ida B. Wells, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.
