Softball Recap: El Rancho Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

El Rancho entered their tilt with Whittier on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Cardinals. The Dons have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cardinals, too.

Jaelynn Barragan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, El Rancho got a massive performance out of Malaya Vargas, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave Vargas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Delilah Gonzalez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Vargas wasn't the only one making solid contact: El Rancho kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The Dons are undefeated (9-0) when they post 11 or more hits.

El Rancho's record now sits at 10-5-1. As for Whittier, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

Coming up, El Rancho will host La Serna at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Dons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Whittier, they will head out on the road to face off against Wilson at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
