Baseball Recap: Midway Comes Up Short

Midway entered their contest against North Lenoir on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Raiders fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Raiders couldn't push the score so high this time.

Cameron Register was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Midway saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tanner Williams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Luke Peterson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Midway's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for North Lenoir, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

Looking ahead, Midway will be playing in front of their home fans against Fairmont at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for North Lenoir, they will head out to face off against Southwest Onslow at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Stallions have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
