Preview: Drayton/Valley-Edinburg Titans vs. St. John Woodchucks

The Drayton/Valley-Edinburg Titans and the St. John Woodchucks will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Drayton/Valley-Edinburg has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while St. John will arrive with nine straight wins.

Last Friday, Drayton/Valley-Edinburg came up short against Park River/Fordville-Lankin and fell 54-41.

Drayton/Valley-Edinburg's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Hailey Berg, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two blocks, and Easton Larson who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Berg continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.

Meanwhile, St. John scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Friday. They claimed a resounding 82-43 victory over Dunseith on the road. That looming 82-43 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for St. John yet this season.

Kaycee Desjarlais continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Desjarlais is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Alani Morin was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Drayton/Valley-Edinburg bumped their record down to 3-11 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for St. John, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.

Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Drayton/Valley-Edinburg have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for St. John, though, as they've been averaging only 39.5 rebounds per game. Given Drayton/Valley-Edinburg's sizeable advantage in that area, St. John will need to find a way to close that gap.
