Skowhegan is a perfect 10-0 against Bangor since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The River Hawks will welcome the Rams at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Skowhegan 3.8, Bangor 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Skowhegan is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Oxford Hills, who was ranked 12th at the time (Skowhegan was ranked 20th). The River Hawks walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Vikings on Monday. Surprisingly, this marked the River Hawks' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bangor). They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over Mt. Blue on Monday. While the Rams didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Emma Tripp made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Tripp was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Folsom, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gabby Goding, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Skowhegan pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bangor, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Everything went Skowhegan's way against Bangor in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Skowhegan made off with a 12-0 victory. Do the River Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
