Baseball Recap: Montgomery County Takes a Loss

Montgomery County fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Estill County on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Engineers by a score of 7-6. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Engineers earlier this season, when they won 6-4.

Jordan Howard was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Landon Back made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Jaimen Caba was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Montgomery County's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Estill County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-8.

Coming up, Montgomery County will head out on the road to challenge Bourbon County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Estill County, they will be taking part in a tournament against Berea at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Engineers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
