Basketball Recap: Central Wins Going Away Against Johnston

Central posted their biggest win since January 15th on Monday. They put the hurt on the Johnston Panthers with a sharp 85-59 victory. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Panthers are ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

John Ramos continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 34 points. He is becoming a predictor of Central's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 9-3 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jahnari Jackson, who posted 11 points.

Central's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Johnston, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-19.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Central will square off against Westerly on Wednesday. Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 19 games -- so hopefully Westerly likes a good challenge. As for Johnston, they will host East Providence at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Johnston is facing East Providence at the right time seeing as East Providence is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
