Football Recap: Matthew Zeck Leads Pueblo West's Defense on Thursday

There was early excitement for Pueblo West after they claimed the first score on Thursday, but it was Mesa Ridge who ended up claiming the real prize. The Cyclones fell 22-15 to the Grizzlies. The Cyclones were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Grizzlies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Although Pueblo West took the loss, they still got scores from Chase Harrison and Zach Duran.

Even if they lost, Pueblo West's defense still kept up the pressure with six sacks. In that department, Matthew Zeck was the leader with three. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten. Pueblo West got some further help from Joren Flores: he picked up a sack, made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.

With the defeat, Pueblo West broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2. As for Mesa Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Pueblo West will take on rival Widefield at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. Meanwhile, Mesa Ridge is set to challenge their familiar foe Montrose at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
