Softball Game Preview: Hueytown Golden Gophers vs. Oak Mountain Eagles

The Hueytown Golden Gophers will square off against the Oak Mountain Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Hueytown: 1.8, Oak Mountain: 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Hueytown's tournament run continued when they took on Oak Grove on Friday. Hueytown put the hurt on Oak Grove with a sharp 17-1 victory. The Golden Gophers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Bryanna Kemp and K Burch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kemp tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Burch pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. At the plate, Kemp went a perfect3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Burch scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Kemp a new career-high in hits (three).

In other batting news, Kelsey Johnson and Jenna Melton did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Melton got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave Johnson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leah Cottingham, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Oak Mountain's offense. They fell 3-0 to Moody on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly three runs.

Hueytown's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Oak Mountain, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
