Baseball Game Preview: Lamesa Tornadoes vs. Childress Bobcats

The Lamesa Tornadoes will take on the Childress Bobcats on Thursday. Lamesa is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

Lamesa is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They beat Alpine by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-2.

Childress came out on top against Slaton on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run second inning. The Bobcats walked away with a 12-7 win over the Tigers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.

Childress let Luke Rodriguez and Drake Rabe run wild. Rodriguez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Rabe went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Rodriguez is becoming a predictor of Childress' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 10-11-1 when he doesn't). Creedan Bell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Childress always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Slaton only posted an OBP of .382.

Childress pushed their record up to 14-11-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Lamesa, their record now sits at 14-11.

Lamesa suffered a grim 14-7 defeat to Childress when the teams last played back in February. Can the Tornadoes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
