Soccer Game Preview: Nelson County vs. Stuarts Draft

The Nelson County Governors will square off against the Stuarts Draft Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Nelson County is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

While Nelson County's victory against Dan River wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Governors had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 3-2 on Friday. Given Nelson County's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Dan River are ranked 265th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Stuarts Draft came up short against Staunton on Thursday and fell 4-2. The defeat continues a trend for Stuarts Draft in their meetings with Staunton: they've now lost six in a row.

Colton Weatherholtz wasn't going to let Staunton walk away unscathed as he scored both of Stuarts Draft's goals, bringing his season total up to four goals.

Nelson County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 16 goals over those three contests. As for Stuarts Draft, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Nelson County took their win against Stuarts Draft in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 9-2 score. Do the Governors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
