Basketball Recap: Somerset Academy Panthers vs. Calvary Christian Academy Eagles
After flying high against the Franklin Academy Panthers last Monday, the Somerset Academy Panthers came back down to earth. Somerset Academy had to suffer through a rough 78-45 loss at the hands of the Eagles. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Somerset Academy in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Anthony Henderson, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnathan Point du jour, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Calvary Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samuel Hallas led the charge by scoring 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hallas has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Collin Paul, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Somerset Academy's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-6. As for Calvary Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8.
Somerset Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. West Broward will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 412th, while the Panthers are ranked 85th). As for Calvary Christian Academy, they will square off against the Panthers at TBD on Tuesday. Hopefully Coral Springs Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Wednesday.
