Softball Recap: Hempfield Area Extends Home Winning Streak to 20

It's playoff time, and Hempfield Area had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the State College Little Lions on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won five contests in a row.

Riley Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Hempfield Area's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Howard, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Claire Mitchell was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Hempfield Area pushed their record up to 24-1 with the victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for State College, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

As of now, neither Hempfield Area nor State College have any future games scheduled.
