Baseball Game Preview: Reedsville Panthers vs. Central Wisconsin Christian Crusaders

The Reedsville Panthers will take on the Central Wisconsin Christian Crusaders on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Thursday, Reedsville needed a bit of extra time to put away New Holstein. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Huskies 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since April 24th.

Lucas Lodel made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Logan Maertz looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

Lodel wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ben Prochnow, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Central Wisconsin Christian was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Hilbert. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.

Reedsville's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Central Wisconsin Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.
