Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Conemaugh Township's Ninth in Last 12 Outings

There's no place like home for Conemaugh Township, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They managed a 43-38 victory over the North Star Cougars on Friday. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while the Cougars are ranked 311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Conemaugh Township to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ethan Matera, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Matera's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Dinyar, who posted 18 points and seven rebounds.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Toby Sheehan, who put up eight points in addition to nine boards and three blocks. Sheehan is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games he's played. Andy Retassie was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Conemaugh Township has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for North Star, their record is now 16-5.

Coming up, Conemaugh Township will be playing at home against Windber at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for North Star, they will venture away from home to face off against Bishop Carroll at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
