Softball Recap: Coral Reef Finds Playoff Glory Versus Palmetto

With a playoff win on the line, Coral Reef rose to the challenge on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Palmetto Panthers a 5-0 shutout. The Barracudas' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.

Coral Reef got a great performance from Erin Zambrano as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Zambrano has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Avery Clegg was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Chloe Junco was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Coral Reef hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least one batters in three consecutive matches.

Coral Reef is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Palmetto, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-14.

Coral Reef didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-1 loss against West Broward on the 13th. Palmetto does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
