Softball Recap: Oak Glen Comes Up Short

The Oak Glen Golden Bears came up short against the Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars on Wednesday and fell 7-3. The Golden Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mattie Carney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Oak Glen saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikalyn Balch, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was Balch's first of the season.

Oak Glen's loss dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Cicero-North Syracuse, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Looking ahead, Oak Glen will square off against Webster Thomas at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Titans will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Golden Bears surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cicero-North Syracuse, they are taking a road trip to take on Chittenango at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.
