Softball Recap: Amphitheater Panthers vs. Sahuaro Cougars

Amphitheater had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-14 to make it six. They came up short against the Sahuaro Cougars, falling 14-3. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 26-0 to the Cougars when the teams met back in March of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Isabella Espinoza was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Talisa Yrigolla was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Sahuaro's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-17. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Sahuaro's side, Julissa Estrada made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Estrada a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Julyssa Canfield was a standout: she got on base in two of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Juliana Lukanuski, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

As of now, neither Amphitheater nor Sahuaro have any future games scheduled.
