Basketball Recap: Anthony Zepeda's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rio Vista over Itasca

Rio Vista was the 48-39 winner over Itasca when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Rio Vista Eagles took a 45-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Itasca Wampus Cats on Tuesday.

Rio Vista lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Anthony Zepeda, who posted eight points along with six rebounds and four steals. Those four steals gave Zepeda a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashton Huey, who went 5 of 11 en route to 11 points and five boards.

Rio Vista dropped their record down to 11-12 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Itasca, their win bumped their record up to 17-9.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Rio Vista Eagles challenge the Meyer Ravens at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. Meyer will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Rio Vista surely won't give up without a fight. As for Itasca, they will face off against Valley Mills at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
